Tonight’s Powerball jackpot is over a billion dollars. How crazy is that?
We’ve spent our obligatory few bucks on tickets, even though the math doesn’t quite work out – why go up against a 1 in 300,000,000 chance to win when other smaller jackpots have a 1 in 11 mill chance?
Yeah, see, though, that’s not the point, is it? The fun is in the group excitement. Buying some lottery tickets helps you feel like a part of something.
I’m still on the fence of the good/bad of buying lottery tickets, though. I only buy some when the jackpot is digustingly huge, because there is so much to be imagined and shared. Tonight at the dinner table, we talked about our dreams and what we’d do with that kind of money. Crazy-world daydreams say a lot about a person. It’s so fun to listen and imagine these impossible things.
But then I always want to encourage any daydreamers to find a miniature version of the big dream. Want designer clothes? You could spend time scouring sales and thrift stores. You can build up pieces one by one, making sure to buy timeless labels and designs.
Want a room dedicated to a hobby? Where can you set up a permanent desk for it? We all have too much clutter. It’s likely a bit of organizing can help you uncover dedicated space, even it is a 2×2 square. If you have big dreams, use that square to work out a plan on how to obtain a bigger space.
When my New Year’s Resolutions started (a few days before Xmas) I carved out space in the laundry room where I could permanently park my yoga mat. I’ve done more yoga in the last two weeks than I had in the previous two months.
So dream away, kids, and good luck to us all. In the meantime, take a look at your own wants and desires and ask yourself: how can I have a piece of this today? Then go get it!
